Finding the Horizon in Athens

I looked at Rapheal's Athens. The horizon line is above the two center figures heads. The vanishing point is between their heads. The horizontal lines go from the edges of the painting to the vanishing point. I determined this through using a ruler and looking at the perspective of the picture. The perspective is achieved through the placement of the people making it look three dimensional.

  1. This is an excellent and clear description, but it doesn't quite answer all the questions. Can you identify any of the figures? How and why are the two center figures made to appear most important?
