"Unit 2: Elements of Music: Assignment 2: Blogging My Experiences."
Music moves me in ways that are difficult to describe. It
can bring on a wide range of emotions from happiness to sadness. It can consume
you and release you. One of my fondest musical experiences has been Disney's
Fantastia movie series. I have watched all of them probably thirty to forty
times. It has great animation along with incredible music. It can help anyone
envision the music and feel its instruments come alive.
The series highlights many great works by many famous composers.
For instant , The Nutcracker Suite by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky as the music
changes Disney tried to link the animation to the changes of scale of the work.
At the beginning of the music, the tempo is slow and Disney uses graceful sprite-like
creatures flying and slowly spreading the morning dew. However, as the music
gets close to the end it shows those sprite-like creatures spreading winter ice
until all is frozen which demonstrates how the music has reached its climax and
is regressing to its end. Displays like these help you visualize how this work
changes and creates a mood or feeling to help carry it along.
All in all, Fantastia combines visual stimulation and audial
stimulation. Through Disney's animation, it enables people young and old to
have a greater appreciation for classical music and their composers. It is timeless
since the same works are still revered today.
