Building to save energy:

The Monolithic Dome is the green home that I find most interesting. I like the design since I have always liked circles. Their structure keeps in heat and air which makes it very energy efficient. This one-piece structure is designed so well that it is resistant to wind and storm damage. It moves with the ground instead of collapsing during earthquakes and since it is made of concrete and steel then it resist damage from fire, insects and rot. These houses can be cheap to build which makes them very economical.  In fact, in Indonesia after a major earthquake about 70 of these homes were built at $1500 cost for each home. These dome buildings have been used for everything including churches, schools, and commercial buildings.

The Sydney Opera House as designed by Jorn Utzon is located in Sydney, Australia. It engages many architectural principles of design. It has a very dramatic contrast to its surroundings. This contrast makes it stand out of other buildings, but it also is unified in its structural design and it fits quite well in such a nautical location. Its roof seems to resemble part of a ship or maybe the sails on a boat. This dramatic design creates variety to the landscape and harbor of it sites. It is truly one of the most unique and recognizable buildings in the world.

Challenge and Opportunity 1

For this assignment I was challenged to draw a picture using the colors blue and orange. This is my interpretation of a picture using only blue and orange made by paint.

Assignment 1 - A Persuasive Poster

Everyone gets fired up about it! Should smoking be banned in public places? Where do you stand on this issue? What are the most powerful images you can use to get your ideas across?

Choose one side of this argument and develop a colorful drawing or collage that is intended to persuade others to agree with your way of thinking. Your audience consists of people who are neutral on the issue or have an opposite position from yours, so it’s important to get their attention.

Use poster board, drawing paper, or a digital program to create your poster. Remember, the idea is to persuade the viewer by the images you capture or create, not to sway them with words alone. When you are finished, scan the image or take a digital photo of it and save it to your computer. Then go to the next page (it will launch the blog list). Find your blog/portfolio and upload your picture to be graded.

"Unit 1: CPR: Assignment 1- My Experiences with Creating, Performing, and Responding."

I have had some experiences in creating, performing, and responding. I love to draw all the time; however, I have rheumatoid arthritis which makes that difficult sometimes. It feels great to design or create some creature, etc. and to give it life. I used to be in band in middle school. I played the percussion instruments. Of course, that was prior to developing arthritis. I really enjoyed the marching band and concerts that we performed. I also enjoy exposure to different art forms. I like all kinds of jazz music. I like all kinds of movies such as dramas, comedies, science fiction, and of course suspense. I like the way I can think about the plot and characters. It sure creates a response for me since I get so involved in the story. All art forms make me come to life. They inspire me.
