My personal experiences with theater include a couple of
plays that I participated in when I was in 2nd grade and
Kindergarten, and a play I've saw when I was in middle school. The plays I participated
in were small school plays. The first was a Thanksgiving Day play in
kindergarten in which I played the King of England as well as a pilgrim. The
second play was a Polar Express play in 2nd grade in which I played one
of the main characters that learned to believe in the power of Christmas. In
the play there was much empathy given to one of the children who lost their
ticket for the Polar Express train and the other children tried hard to recover
it so that he could journey on to the North Pole to meet Santa. These plays
were fun to act in even though I was very young. The only play that I saw was a
Beauty and the Beast play when I was in 6th grade. The story
followed the well-known saga and climaxed when the Beast gets saved by Bell's
love for him which ended the curse on his kingdom. It allowed everyone to see
the man inside the beast and it showed that pure love can conquer all. I really
enjoyed both acting and watching these plays unfold before my eyes.
Thank you for sharing these experiences. I know it's been a while since you saw or participated in a play, but the mood and stories clearly have stuck with you for years, which shows some of the power of the stage. Do you remember if there were costumes, props, or stage directions? Did the visual elements of the plays impact your memory of them? Nice job.
